  • Non-formal education : at the primary school level is provided at 'Adbhutananda Shikshayan'. About 78 children aged 5 to 14 are enrolled to attend daily classes. After school, the children get a nourishing breakfast before going home, In the afternoon after their lessons they get 250 ml. of warm milk to drink.

  • Free Dispensary : An Out Patient Charitable Dispensary (Adbhutananda Sewayan), with professional doctors of the locality in daily attendance, serves the poor and needy with free medical diagnosis, treatment and medicines without regard to caste, class, or religious preference. The main departments of the dispensary are - Pediatrics, Orthopedics, Eye, Ear, Nose, Throat, Cardiac & Chest, Dentistry, Gynecology, Ayurved, and Homeopathy. Pathological investigations & X-ray departments are also present.

  • ‘too poor to come to the Ashrama’ : The Dispensary's qualified allopathic and homeopathy doctors go to four villages weekly to treat patients who are too poor to the Ashrama. Vitamins and other food supplements are provided to the undernourished patients.


  • Public Library : Six days a week the Ashrama's Public Lending Library is open to those who are members. The library has more than 6000 books are receives many magazines and daily newspapers. Membership is acquired by paying a nominal yearly fee.

  • Free Coaching Centre : ‘Daily afternoon classes, except Sundays, for high school students and children of the Ashrama’s Non-Formal School. Four teachers manage the daily coaching classes.


  • Personality Development & Integration : A monastic brother counsels, advises and guides the youth who want to make something good with their lives. The main substance is to learn how to hold on to higher values in life, as well as to develop skills to solve problems which come with daily living. Having a (non-sectarian) spiritual ideal of life is also essential. The luminous life of Swami Vivekananda and his teachings is one of the great inspirations held up for the youth to emulate.

 

 


  • Sarada Sangha : is run by women (not the Ashrama workers) for the purpose of teaching vocational skills like sewing, embroidery, knitting, to teenage girls. Handicrafts are also taught by experienced teachers who have mastered their subject. Several sewing machines have been donated and are used in village uplift work also. The girls learn to make dolls and toys which can be sold for personal income. The woman teachers are all devotees or admirers of Sri Ramakrishna, Swami Vivekananda and Ma Sarada.

  • Relief work : is rushed by the Ashrama to the poor and needy people in outlying areas in times of flood, fire, cold, or other calamity. The Ashrama receives necessary material help from the Ramakrishna Headquaters whenever necessary.

  • Spiritual and Cultural Programmes : Besides Prayers, Worship of God, Celebration of Holy Festivals of India and the birthdays of Sri Ramakrishna, Holy Mother Sari Saradadevi, and Swami Vivekananda, guest speakers and holy monks are invited to the Ashrama to give lectures, conduct musical programmes and spiritual retreats from time to time. Through their help the Ashrama has been able to take some of the annual celebrations of festivals into the villages around Chapra. As India's 'NATIONAL YOUTH DAY' is observed on Swami Vivekananda's birthday (Jan 12 each year), the Ashrama holds an annual Programme for the large number of youth who come out on that day. Sri Ramakrishna's birthday and Swami Adbhutananda's birthday both are very popular festivals. People from remote villages are very happy to attend the feasts (and Prasad distribution) which follows these functions.

  • Our immediate needs : is to complete construction of the Dispensary –cum-library- Rs 25 lakhs. For rural development Educational & Medical activities – Rs 5 lakhs; for yearly expenditure to run the Ashrama – Rs 5 lakhs; Adoption of one child’s expenses for a year (education, food & school uniform) – Rs 5,000 per year per child.

  • Donations : are exempt from income Tax under section 80(G) of I.T.Act. Remittances may be drawn in favor of Ramakrishna Mission Chapra.
